27 Member States of the European Union (+1 non-member)

In 2009, Bill Guffey created the Virtual Paintout and brought together artists from around the world "virtually" -- via the Internet -- to paint every month in a new region using images from Google Street View. I have enjoyed participating in that journey.

When I read that he started out by painting a Street View scene from each of the 50 US States, I  wanted to try to do the same for the European Union.

Below is a list of the current 27 EU Member States (+1 non-member) along with some paintings and drawings I have already completed. All are based on Google Street View images and many were also published on the Virtual Paintout site.

  1. What a great idea - what a great collection of paintings you have done. I am an Englishman who is very committed to his European identity and am full of sadness at what our government is doing.

I too miss the Virtual Paintout. I wonder if someone will resurrect it at some time in the future?

    1. Thanks for your message Tom! I thought about it recently while attending a shipping event in Ostend -- they were showing off a replica of a Bronze age boat that was used to connect Dover to the continent back when Pharaohs ruled Egypt. The connection really goes way back.
It's always sad when people want to change what works.
As for the VPO, it would be nice if it came back. Maybe Bill meant January 2019.
